Today, students performed the lab Testing for Nutrients. This will continue tomorrow. The completed lab is due on Monday.
On Wednesday, we discussed the homework questions from Tuesday. Students then worked on completing a table that summarizes the macromolecules.
On Tuesday we discussed proteins and nucleic acids. Students then answered #5-9 from page 35.

Monday, February 23, 2009

Today students updated their food journals. We then reviewed carbohydrates and lipids. The class watched several good YouTube videos on these topics. Please make sure you have questions 1, 3, and 4 on page 35 done for homework.

Happy snow day #2! Your homework is to keep adding to your food journal. If you don't have it at home, just write down everything you eat each day. Try to estimate how many servings of fruits/vegs, grains, dairy, and meat/alternatives, and how many glasses of water you drink for each day. Have a great weekend!

Good morning, happy snow day! I'm here at the school so if you live in town and would like to come in for extra help, I'll be in room 228 all day except over the lunch hour. Remember to keep your food journal up to date!
On Wednesday, students completed an exercise called "Portion Size Me Assignment". This assignment is posted under class notes, so if you were absent you should open it and try it at home.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Today the class finished watching SuperSize Me. We will take up the answers to the movie questions tomorrow. They then read about carbs and lipids and answered a few textbook questions. Remember to continue to keep your food journal up to date. Fill it in every day for the next 7 days.

Saturday, February 14, 2009

On Friday, students watched "SuperSize Me" and answered questions related to the film. We will finish watching it on Tuesday. Remember, if you haven't printed off the long Macromolecules note from this blog, you should do so! Have a nice long weekend!

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Today we began our study of macromolecules. We discussed carbohydrates and lipids. This is from the first half of the macromolecules note. If you haven't already printed this off, you should before next Tuesday.

Happy fog day grade 11's! I'm here at school today, so if you want to come in for extra help, I'll be in and out of room 228 all day. Some of you need to finish the "Observing Cells" lab report for homework. I'm expecting everyone to hand it in tomorrow. Also, don't forget to print off the Macromolecules note...it's posted under the Class Notes section. Have a nice day!

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Today, the students finished the Observing Cells Lab. Questions r, s and z from the analysis section also need to be answered. All the work for this lab, drawings and answers, must be handed in once it is done. Be sure to print off the Macromolecule note for Wednesday's class.

Monday, February 9, 2009

Today the students completed the first few parts of the Observing Cells lab. It will be finished tomorrow.
Here's a good animation/tutorial website on cell organelles:

On Friday students worked with microscopes. They began by labeling a diagram of a microscope and then completing a table about the functions of the parts of a microscope. They then read about proper use of a microscope, staining techniques, and biological drawings. Finally, they practiced using them and looked at a variety of slides. This lab will continue on Monday. Have a great weekend!

Thursday, February 5, 2009

Today students completed their cell analogies and handed them in.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Today I collected the Virtual Cell Tour assignment. Some of you will still need to finish this tonight and hand it in tomorrow. Students labeled diagrams of animal and plant cells. They then completed an analogy activity for a town that produces "widgets" and how each part is like a part of the cell. Then students, in pairs, began working on their own analogy. This little project will continue tomorrow.

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Today students worked on completing the virtual cell tour assignment. This is due tomorrow, so if you are not done, you will need to finish it using your home computer.

Monday, February 2, 2009

Today we went over the cell theory and examined 4 types of microscopes. We then began the Virtual Cell Tour assignment. The rest of this assignment will be completed tomorrow in the computer lab.
